Septembermania

By White Feather

Septembermania. Isn't that a funny word? I think I just made it up, although it sounds familiar. Maybe I heard it before sometime in the past; perhaps on some television commercial. "Septembermania! 30% off all electronics! 40% off all kitchen appliances! Shop now and get the best prices of the year!" Or something like that.

My ratty old stained and dog-eared Webster's Dictionary defines 'mania' thusly:
Mania - 1. wild or violent mental disorder, 2. an excessive enthusiasm, obsession, craze
I definitely prefer the second definition. I like enthusiasm. Craze, with an 'e' is more socially acceptable than crazy, with a 'y.' It is interesting how one letter can change the connotation of a word. If one person goes on a 'craze' then they are crazy but if society at large goes crazy over something then it is somehow more okay; it is just a 'craze'. Isn't that interesting?

As for the first definition I think the key word is disorder. This is about the disruption of order, or the status quo. It naturally leads to confusion. When the natural order, or status quo, is disrupted our mental processes can become wild or violent. Or we could say that when our mental processes become wild or violent the status quo is disrupted. Either, or. I have been reading some prognostications of a wild and intense and manic September for this year. Waves of consciousness are supposedly going to sweep over the planet and disrupt the status quo. Perhaps Septembermania is an appropriate made-up term after all for this particular September.

But you know what? September is naturally a month when the status quo changes. The status quo of summer is disrupted and we enter the dynamic of autumn. It is a month that naturally breeds enthusiasm. Think of the birds. Don't you know they are filled with the enthusiasm of the trip they are about to begin towards their southerly winter destinations (Northern Hemisphere birds anyway)? A craze is sweeping the bird world. Their immediate status quo is changing yet in the overall scheme of things it is not changing at all. After all, they do this every year. There are patterns within patterns that we all live by. We can experience enthusiasm going through those patterns. The question is, Can we experience enthusiasm when the overall patterns are disrupted?

Another important question is, How hard is it to experience enthusiasm when we are intensely stuck in our patterns, our status quo? What role does enthusiasm play in evolution? Do we hold back on enthusiasm in order to keep from entering mania? Do we fear and guard against enthusiasm in an attempt to keep it from becoming a full-blown mania? Are we afraid of our mental processes becoming wild and disorderly? Is there a point where our mental processes and enthusiasm clash? Do the two things come from different places? We know the mental processes occur within the noggin and ego. Enthusiasm seems to come from someplace lower, however. Enthusiasm originates from the lower chakras and when it meets up with the energies of the ego and noggin disruption occurs. Either the mental processes are jolted and disrupted or the enthusiasm coming up from the lower chakras is subdued and killed. It is like a battle resulting in one winner and one loser.

So how do we keep the two from fighting? How do we get them to work together?

September is the perfect time to think about this. It is a great time to connect with nature because nature is in the process of change. And nature seems to be imbued with enthusiasm. Or maybe that is just what we feel when we connect with nature. We can feel the enthusiasm for constant ongoing change and we can allow that to penetrate our rigidness. Nature can help us open up to change with enthusiasm instead of fear. It can show us the order in disorder and the disorder in order. Nature can help us connect with the flow of divine energy and consciousness flowing through our reality. September beckons us to open up the floodgates of enthusiasm. It dares us to get crazy with joy.

Septembermania. Don't be afraid of it. Feel it. Let it fill every fiber of your being.

I love September. It is one of my twelve most favorite months of the year. It is still early in the month. I am sure I will be back to blabber some more about it......
