Postcard From Corncobville, #3

By White Feather

After a couple of days walking the nature trail, today I instead went to the goose ponds for my walk. I was curious to see if the great blue heron that I had spotted was still hanging around. To my utter delight, it was!

I brought my camera but guess what? My batteries were dead. I laughed and took it as a sign to put the camera away and just enjoy the presence of the heron.

And enjoy it I did! What a magnificent bird. I watched it for about half an hour as it shifted around the pond looking for the best fishing spot. I watched it fish in four different spots but I did not see it catch anything. When it left one spot to find another it would flap its mighty wings three or four times and then glide over the water to the shore on the opposite side of the pond. I swear it was gliding not more than eighteen to twenty-four inches above the water. Because of its colossal wingspan it would be impossible for the heron to flap its wings while gliding so low over the water. When it reached the other shore it simply pulled its wings back and parachuted to a semi-graceful landing. With its enormous wingspan and those long bony legs hanging behind it as well as its long necks hanging down, the bird's flight evoked a sense of prehistoric dinosaur times. I could not take my eyes off it.

One of the fishing spots the heron tried out was no more than about fifteen feet from an asphalt road over which SUV's and pickup trucks passed on a surprisingly regular basis. The bird was not fazed by the traffic one iota. It seemed oblivious to it. I was surprised by that.

I think it would be really cool if every night before we went to bed we asked our selves this one question: What was the most super fantastic, wonderful, mind-blowing, uplifting, and exciting experience that I had today? The first time you do this you might realize that you did not have any super fantastic, wonderful, mind-blowing, uplifting, and exciting experience that day. That's okay. Just think back over your day to find the most exciting thing that happened, even if that thing was seemingly small and insignificant. Once you have found in your memories of the day the experience that answers that question then momentarily focus in on that memory, embrace it, feel it, zap it with mojo, and then, addressing the universe, say, "Thank you!" And say it like you mean it. You've got to feel the gratitude. Once you've done this then completely release that memory. Forget about it and go to bed.

If you do this every single night, after approximately one lunar cycle  you will start realizing that your best daily experiences become more super fantastic, intensely more wonderful, a hundred times more mind-blowing, infinitely more uplifting, and a thousand times more exciting. The joy level rises at an exponentially rapid pace from there on out, the more you do this exercise.

It's just a thought. Give it a try.
